Meridian Facts:
There are 14 major channels, called meridians (in Chinese: jing luo), and numerous secondary channels which distribute Qi throughout the entire body. Of the 14 meridians, 12 connect with organs in the trunk and two follow the front (Ren channel) and rear (Du channel) midline of the body. The channel system is an intricate web which forms a closed circuit of energy circulation in the body. It is along the meridians that the main acupuncture points (discussed after this next question) are located.
Meridians are like copper traces on an electronic circuit board, running throughout the body, and they can even be measured with an Ohm meter as areas of increased electrical conductance. When connected, these points form a map of the body similar to the nervous system, blood, and lymph system.
