Three Dangers of Incorrect Application of Microcurrent Stimulation to the Face
Milliamp electrical facial rejuvenation was first introduced into the United States from France in the 1980's. Such intense levels of electrical stimulation are wonderful for acute pain suppression and therapeutic muscle stimulation, but are NOT appropriate for most of our modern clients. Here's why:
- Danger #1: Energy Loss.
High intensity milliamps are useful for muscle stimulation, as is often used by physical therapists in rehabilitation of stroke and accident victims. It can force tense and spastic muscles to relax, and can reduce swelling and edema. Yet these benefits have a pricethe energy levels and actual healing of the stimulated tissues are reduced.3Just like Botox, high-level currents can make facial muscles artificially relax and flatten, thus reducing wrinkling. Yet the price paid for this temporary fix is usually decreased energy in the form of decreased ATP molecules4 in the facial tissues. This goes totally against the purpose of "rejuvenation," which should result in an increase in available energy for regeneration and youthful appearance.
- Danger #2: Potential aggravation of health disorders with high current facial rejuvenation.
Electrical stimulation is not appropriate for all clients. It is vital that you complete an intake questionnaire from your practitioner before undergoing facial rejuvenation treatments. It is important that you are truthful in your responses to avoid any possible risks. If you have epilepsy, you are not a candidate for any treatments involving electrical stimulation. If you have high blood pressure, migraines or other chronic headaches, a pacemaker for heart arrhythmia, or cancer, you may get facial rejuvenation treatments involving electrical stimulation provided that you are already being treated for your condition and your doctor approves your microlight facial rejuvenation sessions. For pregnant clients, it is not advisable to undergo microlight facial rejuvenation sessions.
Fortunately microcurrent stimulation with the microlight facial rejuvenation system is very safe for almost all clients. In the manufacturer's 17-year history, there HAS NOT BEEN ONE serious adverse reaction reported! The seven phases of microlight facial rejuvenation treatment are designed to create inner balance and outer beauty.
This is not always the case with other electrical facial systems using stronger currents or with less carefully designed treatment protocols as microlight facial rejuvenation. There are many stories of negative side effects to stronger current and intense light rays.
- Danger #3: Poorly designed or manufactured devices causing discomfort to clients.
High standards of manufacturing are very important for electrical stimulation devices. Some devices, especially some of those imported from outside the USA, are not designed according to the highest electronic standards, and so may sometimes produce shocks, electrodes with painful "hot spots" or current surges.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has NOT closely regulated esthetic stimulators. They are starting to do so, but so far enforcement has been limited.
