Is acupuncture covered by medical insurance?
Acupuncture is recognized by many medical insurance carriers. By law, acupuncturists are considered primary care providers are therefore authorized by the state to provide services. Many group plans offered through employment and some individual plans include acupuncture as a covered benefit. Your representative should be able to confirm your coverage. As current trends indicate, more insurance companies are realizing the effectiveness and overall cost savings of acupuncture treatment, and are including it in their health benefit packages.
In addition to traditional insurance, acupuncturists are also authorized to provide services under Workers' Compensation law and in personal injury cases.
