Oriental Medicine Theory
Unlike Western medicine, which focuses mainly on treating symptoms, Oriental medicine is a complete health care system capable of delivering both primary and specialized care to the body, mind and spirit. It gets to the root cause of health imbalances. Oriental medicine is based on principles developed approximately 2500 years ago and continue to evolve today. The roots of Oriental medicine are considered by many experts to be Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. Buddhism is a philosophy, Confucianism is social and political philosophy, and Taoism is both a religion and a philosophy.
Some of the fundamental concepts of Oriental Medicine are:
- Five Element Theory
- Yin and Yang
- Qi (also known as "Chi" and pronounced "CHEE")
- Meridians
Some of the key components of Oriental Medicine are:
- Acupuncture and Acupressure
- Chinese Medical Herbs
- Diet and Nutrition
- Self-healing exercises such as Tai Chi and Qigong (also known as Ch'i Kung and pronounced "CHEE GUNG")
