Weight Loss
Before starting any sort of a weight-loss program, you must first determine if you are overweight. The quickest and most economical way to screen your weight is by finding out what your body mass index (BMI) is.
BMI is the measure of health and fitness endorsed by the Surgeon General of the United States. It takes into consideration the height and weight of a person to give an accurate index of what his/her wieght should be. A BMI of up to 24 is considered healthy. Any number between 25-30 means the person is overweight. A reading of over 30 is an indication of obesity.
Use our BMI Calculator to get a quick snapshot of how your weight compares with other adults your height. The BMI Calculator is programmed in JavaScript and offers both English and Metric measurements. If you have JavaScript turned off, see our BMI Table. It's only available in English measurements.
We can't stress the importance of this enough: before starting any weight-loss program, be sure to consult with your healthcare provider. BMI doesn't measure body fat directly, but rather it's a quick and economical screening tool to identify possible weight problems for adults. Even if you have a high BMI, you may not necessarily be overweight. Several factors contribute to a high BMI including a larger-than-average bone structure and having more muscle than the average person your height.
Your healthcare provider may need to do further assessments to determine if you are overweight and if your weight is adversely affecting your health. If your healthcare provider approves you for a weight-loss program, contact us immediately. We have a program that has proven results in safe weight reduction.
